Insurances

Santander Travelcard

If, for example, a disability occurs during a train ride or a flight, the transportation accident insurance pays up to 520 in case of 100 percent disability.000 euros. The prerequisite, however, is that the ticket was paid for with the Santander Travelcard.

International travel health insurance provides cover abroad for a period of six weeks. The trip does not have to have been paid for with the card. Incidentally, the same also applies to travel cancellation insurance. This also applies if the travel price has been paid elsewhere.

Purchase protection insurance reimburses the purchase price of goods paid for with the Santander Travel Card in the event of burglary, destruction, damage and robbery. This protection is valid for up to 90 days.

Apart from the insurance benefits, cardholders enjoy a five percent discount if they book the trip through the associated travel agency.

Withdraw money abroad

So much security is all well and good, but what about the fees for cash withdrawals or using the card outside the euro zone?? If you want to withdraw money from an ATM with the Santander Travelcard, you will be charged one percent of the amount, with a minimum of 5.25 euros. However, this requires a credit balance on the card account. If this is not the case, the costs increase to 3.5 percent, with a minimum of 5.75 euros.

The use of money abroad, i.e. outside the euro zone, is subject to a further 1.75 percent currency conversion fee. For a transfer from the credit card balance, Santander Consumer Bank charges 1.50 euros.

Conclusion & Evaluation

At first glance, a fancy thing for frequent travelers. At second glance, however, the question arises as to whether the insurance benefits in this form make sense. Every professional and every child should have accident insurance that covers them around the clock, worldwide, and not just on trains or planes. It is questionable whether purchase protection insurance adds any value compared to the benefits already included in household insurance. The loss due to burglary is covered analogously by the household contents insurance. For travel health insurance abroad, there are providers who also provide coverage beyond six weeks. Only the travel cancellation insurance could have a positive aspect. However, Santander Consumer Bank does not publish the insurance conditions on its website. Here the customer buys the cat in the bag, as with the other insurance modules.
